Reducing cooling costs

Everyone is concerned about lowering summer cooling costs! One sure way is to maintain a clean environment. Furnace filters need changed at least 4 times a year, generally with the change of seasons. This not only helps to keep the air flowing it also helps to cut back on costly repairs. Fans of any kind can move air around and make a room feel cooler. If your rental home isn’t equipped with an attic fan or ceiling fans, portable fans can also help lower the temperature by several degrees. For ceiling fans, set the fan blade direction to clockwise to bring cooler air down to you. Turning off lights when you don’t need them saves you energy and also reduces heat in your home. Use power strips to plug in your electronics, which can be turned off with the flick of a switch. This makes it easier to turn off lighting and home electronics when you are not using them.
And as always be sure to check those GFCI breakers before calling for maintenance. There are many things you as a tenant can do to help avoid maintenance charges.
Enjoy your summer!
